Cross-country skiing on the Dachstein

A wide variety of cross-country trails and first-class service at the cross-country skiing centre in Ramsau am Dachstein

The Ramsau cross-country skiing center is considered one of the best areas in the world. Situated on a sunny high plateau, the region impresses with a trail network of around 220 kilometers covering all levels of difficulty. Glide across the sun-drenched plateau or train in the snow-sure Dachstein glacier area on perfectly groomed trails for both skating and classic styles.

Various cross-country ski trails in the region:

Dachstein Glacier-Ramsau Trail

Unique at an altitude of 2,700 meters, this trail is the highest panoramic cross-country trail in the Alps. Snow reliability is guaranteed up here all year round. Training in the thin mountain air offers a significant training effect for endurance. After a short approach to the Schladming Glacier, you glide along the loops between Gjaidstein and Koppenkarstein across the eternal ice. The perfectly groomed tracks, up to 5 km long, provide firm grip for both skating and classic styles.

Hallstatt Glacier Trail

As the longer of the two glacier trails, the Hallstatt Glacier Trail offers up to 10 kilometers of perfectly groomed tracks for classic and skating styles. The route winds its loops through the impressive scenery between Gjaidstein, Eisstein, and the approach to the Seethalerhütte. Due to its high altitude, it enables professional training on natural snow from early autumn well into spring.

Herold-Schildlehen

This trail is the epitome of enjoyable cross-country skiing on the Ramsau high plateau. It connects the districts of Schildlehen and Herold on flat, sunny paths and is ideal for beginners or for warming up. Without significant elevation changes, you glide through the open landscape and enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding peaks. It is the perfect route to gain confidence in classic style or skating.

Standard Trail East

As the heart of the eastern plateau, this trail offers varied terrain with gentle undulations. It leads through light forests and across vast snowfields, making it particularly popular with leisure skiers. Thanks to the wide grooming, both skaters and classic skiers find ideal conditions here for extensive laps in the winter sun.

Standard Trail West

This trail opens up the western part of Ramsau and is characterized by its sporting versatility. It demands a bit more stamina than the eastern version but remains well-manageable for the average skier. The route passes numerous prominent landmarks in the region and constantly offers new perspectives of the Dachstein massif. A must for everyone who wants to explore the entire Ramsau plateau on skis.

World Cup Trail

Here you can feel the spirit of elite sports. The World Cup trail in Ramsau is technically highly demanding and challenges skiers with its crisp climbs and fast descents. It is designed exactly according to the requirements of international competitions. Those who train here measure themselves against the best in the world. The perfect grooming ensures that every push-off is directly converted into forward momentum. The World Cup trail is for true athletes.

Stadium Trail

Centrally located in the cross-country stadium, this trail is the meeting point for technique training and short, intensive sessions. Due to its flat topography, it is an excellent place to work on the fine mechanics of skating or classic style. The stadium also offers the optimal infrastructure for direct access to the trail network. It is often the starting point for test runs or for orientation within the Ramsau cross-country center.

Night Trail

The floodlit loops in the WM stadium and parts of the Standard Trail West allow for intensive cross-country skiing late into the evening. You start right in the center of Ramsau and carve your tracks along the illuminated route following the Standard Trail West up to the Minzlhof height. An optional loop around the reservoir complements the route before returning to the stadium.
