More than 20 ski tours, traverses, and steep descents are waiting to be tackled from the top station of the Dachstein Glacier cable car or directly from Ramsau.
Ski Tour to the Brandalm – for Beginners
For ski touring beginners, ascents and descents near the ski slopes are ideal. The tour starts at the Zauberlift and leads you at a relaxed pace in about 1.5 hours along the ski slope up to the Brandalm. After the sporty ascent, you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the Dachstein South Face and a fast-paced descent over the groomed ski slope.
This ski tour is perfectly suited for beginners and leads right through the untouched winter landscape. The starting point for the ski tour is the valley station at the Zauberlift/Ski Willy parking lot. The "through the Schlitzen" route takes about two hours from the Ramsau plateau through snow-covered forests up to the Dachstein Glacier cable car. After the nature-focused ascent, an easy-going descent over the groomed ski slope follows.
Dachsteinwarte Ski Tour – for Beginners
From Berggasthof Hunerkogel straight to the gondola and up to the glacier: starting from the Dachstein Glacier mountain station, this ski tour leads across a groomed and well-marked ski path to the Dachsteinwarte in about 1.5 hours. Due to its simplicity and short duration, it is perfect for beginners and leisure tours. Given the right snow conditions, the ski tour to the Dachsteinwarte is accessible as early as October.
Step into your skis right in front of Berggasthof Hunerkogel and set off. The route initially leads downhill until you leave the ski trail about 300 meters before the Brandalm, ascending through alpine terrain to the Brandriedel and further to the "Gamsfeldgassl." From there, the descent takes place via the Kraml-Lahn, which impresses with its steep and open terrain. A precise assessment of snow conditions and current avalanche danger is an absolute must here. Alternatively, choose the path directly from Berggasthof Hunerkogel towards the Türlwandhütte and continue onto the Lehnachriedel. The descent here is either along the ascent track or likewise via the Kraml-Lahn to Gasthof Edelbrunn, from where you return to the Berggasthof via the ski route.
On the "Kleine Tor-Tour," you ascend over 900 vertical meters to an altitude of 2,527 meters over a distance of nearly 10 kilometers in just under 2.5 hours. Starting directly from Berggasthof Hunerkogel (Dachstein Glacier cable car valley station), this tour leads sportily uphill to the Edelgrieß. Please note: This ski tour is only suitable for advanced ski tourers; crampons and an ice axe may be required along the route.
Variant 1
Starting at Dachsteinruhe, this nearly 4 km long ski tour leads along frozen mountain streams and through dreamy forests up to the scenic Schönbühel ridge, impressing with stunning wintry nature. In just under 2.5 hours, you cover over 730 vertical meters. Furthermore, this alpine ski tour offers various descent options to suit your personal taste. Please note: This ski tour is only suitable for advanced ski tourers.
Variant 2
Start the tour directly from Berggasthof Hunerkogel with a short descent via the Walcheralm. Afterward, continue to the Neustattalm, from where you can enjoy the gentle ascent over the Schönbühel to the Südwandhütte.
Arguably one of the most demanding yet most beautiful ski tours in Austria leads you across the so-called "Roof of Styria." From the mountain station, the tour initially leads downhill to the Dirndl-Kolk. From there, it is a crisp ascent of about 100 vertical meters to the Dachsteinwarte. This is where the eventful descent begins, leading from the Simonyhütte down to Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt and further to the valley station of the Dachstein cable car. Tip: For sporty and experienced skiers, this tour is also possible with regular alpine skis.
Please note: With a length of nearly 20 km and a duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes, the Dachstein Crossing ski tour is only recommended for experienced and endurance-oriented ski tourers or very fit skiers.
